This week the Marine Commandant removed all Confederate history from their bases.
The Air Force changed the service anthem to gender neutral lyrics.
So word on the streets is the famous "Ballad of the Green Beret" is being rewritten as well. Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler first sang the ballad back in 1966 while training to become a Special Forces Medic and it became a number 1 hit on the billboard for 5 straight weeks.
The current song with the edits currently being recommended in red:
Fighting Soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who jump and die (remove men and add "non-binary" so it reads "Fearless non-binary who jump and die."
Men who mean just what they say (ditto as above)
The brave men of the Green Beret (ditto as above)
Silver Wings upon their chest
These are men America's best (ditto as above)
100 men will test today (ditto as above)
But only 3 win the Green Beret
Trained to live of nature's land
Trained in combat hand to hand
Men who fight by night and day (ditto as above)
Courage take from the Green Beret
Silver Wings upon their chest
These are men America's best (ditto as above)
100 men will test today (ditto as above)
But only 3 win the Green Beret
Back at home a young wife waits (remove wife and change to spouse for gender neutral term)
Her Green Beret has met his fate (remove her and he for being sexist and change to "hir")
He has died for those oppressed (remove he and change to hir)
Leaving her his last request (remove her and change to hir)
Put Silver Wings on my son's chest (remove son and change to "grown child")
Make him one of America's best (remove him and change to "ze")
He'll be a man he'll test one day (remove he'll, man and he'll and choose a new pronoun)
Have him win the Green Beret (remove him and geez WTF)
